Joe Shumate (of counsel)
Joe Shumate is one of California most successful, respected and experienced political consultants. He has directed numerous successful statewide candidate campaigns, serving as a key player in the election of two California governors as well as other statewide officeholders. Shumate, along with two other American political consultants, directed Russian President Boris Yelstin's re-election campaign in 1996 and was the subject of a Time Magazine cover story and, later, the award-winning movie Spinning Boris. Shumate has also directed national independent expenditure campaigns and worked on election efforts across the country. In addition to his work on behalf of political candidates, Shumate has provided strategic consulting services to numerous statewide initiatives, local ballot measures and issue advocacy efforts – including directing Governor Pete Wilson's redistricting effort in 1991. He has also played a lead role in a wide variety of public affairs efforts on behalf of trade associations and private business interests. Most recently, Shumate served as a key political advisor to the California Chamber of Commerce independent expenditure efforts. In 1992 and 1993, Shumate served as a Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Wilson. Shumate is recognized as a pioneer in applying quantitative and mathematical modeling methods to political campaigns. Clients including statewide candidates, political party committees, initiative campaigns and others frequently retain Shumate to provide comprehensive analyses of voter communications strategy and election turnout modeling. |
